Ryne Barker’s final two years at Casteel turned a talented infielder into one of the fastest-rising high-school players in the 2026 MLB Draft—and the second player selected directly out of Casteel.

Built on the national stage

Barker’s breakout gathered momentum at USA Baseball’s National High School Invitational. The infielder earned a place on the 2025 NHSI All-Tournament Team, then returned in 2026 as one of the most closely watched players on a deep Casteel roster.

USA Baseball highlighted Barker and Ryan Harwood after the pair combined for 12 hits, 11 stolen bases, and eight RBIs across four games in the 2025 event. MLB Pipeline later credited Casteel’s run to the NHSI semifinals as the national exposure that helped Barker emerge as a genuine Draft prospect.

The tools that attracted Atlanta

MLB Pipeline ranked Barker No. 197 in the 2026 Draft class and described a super-athletic left-handed hitter with promising contact ability, developing power, and plus speed. Scouts saw the versatility to play third base, second base, shortstop, or potentially use that speed in the outfield.

His strongest present tool was his running ability. The combination of speed, bat-to-ball skill, defensive flexibility, and continued physical projection gave Atlanta a development profile with multiple paths forward.

Drafted—and signed

The Atlanta Braves selected Barker in the 11th round with the 322nd overall pick in July 2026. Barker had been committed to Texas Tech, but instead signed with Atlanta for a reported $697,500 bonus and began his professional career in the Braves organization.

Atlanta’s own Draft review called Barker the player to watch from its rounds 11–15 group. For Casteel, the selection made him the program’s second player drafted directly out of the high school and another proof point for a development culture designed to prepare players for baseball’s next level.

What the story represents

Barker’s rise is a reminder that development is not always linear. He kept adding strength, kept performing against stronger competition, and made the most of every larger stage. The result was a direct path from Casteel to a professional organization—and a new standard for the Colts who follow him.
