Her standard lives on.

“SL” honors Sandra “Sandy” Lundberg, the founding principal selected to open Dr. Camille Casteel High School. It is a quiet reminder that every Colt carries forward the care, courage, and uncommon spirit she built into this campus.

FOUNDING PRINCIPAL · 2015

Building a school from belief.

After a long career as an educator and school leader, Sandy moved to Arizona in 2010 and served Chandler Unified in several roles. In 2015, she was selected to open the district's newest comprehensive high school—a responsibility she described as both a privilege and a labor of love.

The school itself bears the name of longtime Chandler superintendent Dr. Camille Casteel. Sandy turned that namesake into a living community: one built around students, relationships, high expectations, and belonging.

Rare. Distinctive. Unforgettable.

Sandy affectionately called Casteel students her “White Buffalos.” The image represented something rare and extraordinary—young people capable of standing apart through character, service, and excellence.

Her influence reached well beyond a title. She helped establish the language, traditions, and emotional center of a new school. Casteel's library was named in her honor in April 2018, recognizing the founding principal whose vision shaped the campus from its first day.
