The record tells part of the story. The lasting picture is a group that kept meeting the moment: on a national stage, through the region race, and across five pressure-filled state-tournament games.
A national-stage test
Casteel returned to the National High School Invitational in Cary, North Carolina, continuing its place among the programs invited to test themselves against elite competition. The Colts brought a deep roster and the same development-first identity that has defined the program under Coach Matt Denny.
Winning the region
The Colts finished 22–9 overall and 6–2 in region play, earning first place in the region. The regular season included the daily work that rarely fits neatly into a box score: players accepting roles, responding to adversity, and preparing to play their best baseball in May.
Five postseason games
Casteel opened the 6A tournament with an 8–0 win over Desert Ridge. After a loss to O'Connor, the Colts stayed alive by beating Chandler 3–2 and Kofa 12–6. The run ended against O'Connor on May 12, but not before Casteel once again established itself as one of the state's teams capable of advancing deep into the postseason.
What carries forward
The 2026 season added another chapter to a program that won state championships in 2023 and 2024. Seniors left a standard for the next group, returning players gained postseason experience, and the Colts strengthened the expectation that every spring should be played with purpose.
